38-33, Penn St. Beats Illinois in a Brickfest

Post by Orange on Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:44 pm

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Talor Battle made four free throws in the final 16 seconds to lead Penn State to a 38-33 victory victory against No. 18 Illinois on Wednesday night.

Battle finished with 11 points for the Nittany Lions (19-8, 8-6 Big Ten), who committed 13 turnovers and made only 28 percent of their shots.

The Illini (21-6, 9-5) were no better, shooting 30 percent (15-for-50) and committing 15 turnovers. Chester Frazier and Trent Meacham had seven points each to lead Illinois.

Both teams opened with their worst halves of the season as Penn State led 17-15 at the break.

It's even more pathetic that Illinois has done that twice this year. They did the same thing against Minnesota and lost also. The ranked teams in the Big Ten have been upsetting this year except for Mich. State. Purdue being the most disappointing team in that conference, followed by Wisconsin. Purdue came into the season ranked 10th and has lost to great teams but they should have beat Penn St, Ohio St, and Illinois (at least once). I expected Wisconsin to drop off, but I had no idea Illinois would be where they are at now. They appear to be heading in the right direction and will only get better in the future. I'm ready for both Michigan State and Illinois to be on the top of that conference again.

The teams aren't so boring when they play other teams but when the Big10 plays in-conference they are just so slow and have so much trouble scoring. It is like a different set of teams when they play eachother.
